Web Design Features & Benefits

Search Engine Friendly

My websites are built using SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) best practices, which increase your website’s visibility in search engine result listings. I also advise on other digital marketing strategies, including content marketing.

Optimised For Speed

Website users will not wait long for pages to download, Google also takes page speed seriously, and can penalise slow websites in their algorithm. All my websites are optimised for speed and performance, making sure they download, as quickly as possible.

Self Manage

Self-manage your website with WordPress and Divi, they are the most popular CMS and web page builder in the world, providing you with full control of your website. However, if you don’t have the time I do offer a website maintenance service to help.

Response Design Websites

My websites are responsive, meaning they adjust to the screen size from the device, in which they are being viewed. There are no needs to scroll sideways or pinch to zoom. Websites that look and function great on any device.

Website Security

While no website is ever 100% secure, I take extra measures to help keep your website safe. I also provide ongoing website protection, with a website maintenance service.

Google Analytics

As part of your website build, I will add and set up Google Analytics, so you can analyse and understand your website visitors. Understanding who’s visiting your website, when they visit it, and what they do when they get there, can be important for your business.

The Web Design Process

This stage is understanding what you require from a website, finding out the purpose, the goals, objectives and the competition.

We can then start planning on building the right website for the right crowd. We will discuss the design, colours, typography, content and functionality.

I will setup and install WordPress and start building the website, along with adding any functionality that you require, such as a contact form or online shop.

After testing and launching the website, I will provide a document on how the website is built and how you can make adjustments yourself using WordPress and the web page builder.

Websites should be kept frequently updated, be current, relevant and secure with any errors or bugs fixed. Web pages need to be optimised, submitted to search engines, monitored and maintained.

Why I Use WordPress

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a type of Content Management System (CMS), which allows you to control and manage the content within your website. I also use Divi, which is a premium product and the world’s most popular WordPress theme and web page builder. Together they are packed with features, are well supported, versatile and customisable to build bespoke website designs.

Self Manageable and User Friendly

WordPress is browser-based and can be accessed from any device connected to the internet, allowing users to self-manage, their website, with it’s easy to use and intuitive interface. WordPress is the most popular CMS in the world, providing you with full control to add or edit, pages, blog posts, images, etc. However, if you don’t have the time I do provide a website maintenance service to help.

100% Ownership

Some other popular CMS or page builders are self-hosted, meaning that you don’t own your website or have the choice of who hosts it. If the company stops trading, or for some reason wants to remove your website and all its content, they can. WordPress gives you control on who hosts your website, with full access to your content, including the database, which means it can be migrated to another provider if required.

Search Engines Love WordPress

Search engine optimisation is made easier in WordPress, the code is clean and simple for websites to read and index content. There are also some excellent SEO plugins available, which add additional enhancements to optimise your website for search engines.

100% Customisable

The look and feel of your website are 100% customisable with WordPress, so your brand identity can shine through and provide a unique experience to your visitors.

Extend Website Functionality with Plugins

WordPress continues to improve all the time and is extremely powerful straight out the box, but it also provides extra functionality from plugins. Plugins provide additional capabilities for your website such as adding social profiling, booking systems, eCommerce or membership platforms.

On post website completion, you have the choice to maintain your website or get me to handle the website maintenance and do your website updates for you. If you’re new to WordPress but prefer handling updates and website changes yourself, then I can provide training. I will share documentation and videos on how to do the most common tasks. There are also, plenty of online resources or you can request further assistance if required.

Web Design FAQ’s

Here are some of our most frequently answered web design questions and answers.

How long does it take to build a website?

Timescales are dependent on the size of the project, the time it takes to provide content, information and feedback, and other ongoing work I may have. Most websites will take between 6-8 weeks, eCommerce websites take approximately 12 weeks.

Do you only build WordPress Websites?

Yes, WordPress is the best content management system that powers nearly half of the world wide web. It’s flexible, extremely customisable, with added functionality, and it’s easy to use interface allows clients to self-manage their websites.

What technologies do you use to build websites?

I use WordPress, along with a premium WordPress theme called Divi, and built using, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery and PHP. Divi is a theme page builder, which allow you to easily build additional pages, with unlimited layouts, through a drag and drop user interface, without the need for coding knowledge.

Do you offer training on managing my website?

I provide documentation for both WordPress and Divi as well as share extra online resources, where you can find anything you need to know. If requested, I can also provide video tutorials on the most common tasks that you may need or one-to-one training sessions, (£20 per hour) to walk you through managing your website.

Will my website be mobile-friendly?

Yes! Having a mobile-friendly website is important for user experience and search engines. I work hard to ensure your website is responsive to modern devices and browsers.

Do I have to be in Brighton & Hove to work with you?

No, I will work with clients in the UK, or globally and can communicate online.

Will my website be search engine friendly?

Yes, I don’t believe it’s worth having a website if it’s not optimised for search engines and cannot be found online. All my websites include key SEO best practices, and procedures, to help your small business succeed online.

Who provides the content for the website?

You do, you know your business, it’s customers and what you need from your website. You will need to provide all the written content for the website, as well as images, such as logos, photos, infographics and anything you may need. However, if you are not sure how to write for the web or what content to include, I do provide a guide, full of advice, tips on how to write engaging content and other helpful information.

Do you provide a mock-up of the website design?

Before starting your website project, I like to know how you want your website to look and feel, preferably with examples of websites you like. I will then build the homepage and one other page, based on your design brief, using the website page builder. The page builder allows web pages to be built and changed more easily and is often a better option than spending time creating a website mock-up.

Will you maintain our website for us?

I can help maintain your website, or you can make the more minor, edits, updates, and additions yourself. I provide a website maintenance service, or you can contact me as you require updates to your website, and I will provide an hourly quote based on your requests. The choice is up to you, but whatever you decide, it’s important to keep WordPress and Divi updated for performance and security.

Will I be able to update the site myself when it’s finished?

Yes, you will have full control of the website and can learn how to manage the content yourself. My websites are built using WordPress and a page builder, making it easier to edit text, add or remove images and control products and pricing etc. However, I do recommend a professional (developer) to complete more complex changes and maintenance such as design or structure changes, and complex functionality requirements. I do offer a website maintenance plan or you can contact me as you require updates to your website.

Do you provide website hosting and domain?

No, I believe it’s important for clients to be responsible for their website hosting and domain. This will ensure that you will continue to have full access and total control of your website. However, I can recommend great hosting companies and packages. that provide 24/7 support, super-fast speed and with the latest server technology, for a competitive price.

Are you updating and keeping your website secure ?

WordPress websites need frequent updates for basic infrastructure, theme, plugins and general performance, to help with speed and security. That’s why I provide an affordable WordPress website maintenance service, so you have a great performing website and more time to run your business.
